Hotels

Construction of the new Marriott Courtyard at the Aberdeen Airport is due to commence in 2009. The structural design has now been completed and planning permission has been obtained. Tenders have been invited for the construction from various contractors for this new build hotel. This is a prestigious hotel located within the airport confines and will be ideally placed for usage especially associated with the airport facility.

The structure of the building has been engineered utilising a transfer deck at 1st floor level incorporating steel beams and the concrete floor deck, supporting precast concrete panel system over which forms the bedroom block to the hotel. The public spaces have been formed using a serious of steel columns on a relatively large grid of around 6 – 8 metres. Ensuring that the client has maximum potential for various usages or adaptations to the hotels public spaces in the future.

The building has been founded on natural stiff clays and is designed founding on a reinforced concrete raft system bearing on this natural subsoil. The design for the car parks and the external works facility has all been completed by Marks Heeley and incorporates design requirements as required by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency. Liaison with this authority was necessary to enable planning permission to be obtained.

Marks Heeley also completed a green travel plan for the new build hotel, together with sustainability statement which incorporated the latest use of sustainable materials throughout the construction of the building.
