Computer Centre Basingstoke

Commercial

Marks Heeley was engaged as Consulting
Engineers by the Design/Building Contractors to carry out the structural engineering design for this project. Together with the Architect we were able to evolve the pleasing and efficient structural form shown.

The steel susperstructure is carried on
conventional pad foundations and the curved roof beams are clad in jointless, curved,
aluminium sheathing 50 metres long. Great care was taken in the detailing of the steelwork which can be seen in the pleasing structural details
illustrated.

This fully air conditioned corporate data centre, which was opened recently, is named after Sir Alexander Durie, Director General of the AA 1964-77. The building covers 3,500m² and has a capacity for twelve mainframe computers, their attendant staff and data storage.
